Here Comes the AL East

I don't know who had it out for the Twins this year, but their schedule to start the season is brutal. 15 of the first 20 games are on the ROAD against the AL EAST. Ouch! The last couple of years have not been good for the Twins in games versus the AL East. You have to go back to 2006 for the last time the Twins had a winning record against those five teams. Here's a rundown on how the Twins have fared against that division in recent history.

2010 15-21
2009 10-22
2008 13-22
2007 19-19
2006 22-13

Now, of these fifteen road games, 4 are against the Yankees, 4 are against the Rays, 4 are against the Orioles, and 3 are against the Blue Jays. No games against Boston, who many think are the class of the group, until early may. After that four-game series in Boston, the Twins don't travel east outside of the division until.......the playoffs? Okay, so there's a series in Milwaukee, but the Brewers don't scare me right now.

What does this mean? Well, it could mean that the Twins get off to a rough start, being on the road that much. But it also could mean, that if they get off to a decent start, even a .500 start, that the Twins set themselves up for a productive summer. Especially when you look at the last couple of seasons, where the Twins haven't really gotten going until June or July.

The bottom line for me is that I am not going to get too concerned over the first 20 games. That said, if they start 3-17, I am going to go crazy...........

  1. This is nuts! It's like they wanted to set us up for our annual second half run to win the division in September again.
